FCP unites, strengthens and educates local & global communities through basketball

We see a globally connected basketball community that serves all populations regardless of race or socioeconomic status.

2006 – 2009

From 2006 to 2009, Full Court Peace created high school basketball teams comprised of Protestant and Catholic boys from the city's most segregated areas.

Long-Term Involvement. Sustained Interaction.

These teams played together in Belfast for nine months, and then traveled during the summer to the United States to play against American teams and to stay with host families.

What We Learned

The long-term involvement and sustained contact between the boys, as well as the team-based approach to friendship building, became Full Court Peace’s modus operandi for future work.

2010 – 2014

From 2010 to 2014, Full Court Peace ran basketball clinics and refurbished basketball courts for youth affected by drug violence in northern Mexico.

Attendance, Attendance, Attendance

Over 1,000 youth attended our clinics and received bilingual books, basketballs and NBA paraphernalia, courtesy of the Atlanta Hawks. Given the extreme danger of everyday life in Juarez, these clinics offered an opportunity for those involved to focus on improving the infrastructure of their community, rather than be affected or consumed by hazardous activities.

What We Learned

Half the battle of our work is safely getting youth from dangerous environments to our basketball events. In Juarez, we listened to the locals and found their ideas to be the most effective toward bringing youth to the courts and away from dangerous activities..
